Utility vehicle sales are up consistently in February


<p>Passenger car manufacturers continued to report a steady increase in sales in February 2024 compared to the same month the previous year, helped by a growing demand for utility vehicles.</p>

<p>The biggest automaker in the nation, Maruti Suzuki, reported an 82.5% increase in utility vehicle sales to 61,234 units in February, while sales of passenger cars fell 15.3% year over year to 86,890 units. Maruti Suzuki said that overall domestic passenger vehicle (PV) sales in February of this year were 160,271 units, up 8.7% from February 2023’s 147,467 units.</p>
<p>In February, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. reported selling 60,501 vehicles. “The newly launched Hyundai Creta clocked the sale of 15, 276 units in February, which incidentally is the highest-ever monthly sales recorded by ‘Brand CRETA’ since its inception in India in 2015,” said Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai Motor India Ltd.</p>
<p>Furthermore, Tata Motors had a 20% increase in domestic sales last month, selling 51,267 units compared to 42,862 units in February 2023. Mahindra & Mahindra sold 42,401 utility vehicles in the home market, a 40% increase, and 42,941 units total, including exports, in the utility vehicle sector.</p>
<p>“We launched the Scorpio N Z8S variant and the Thar Earth edition this month to make some of our SUVs available to consumers faster,” said Veejay Nakra, head of M&M Ltd.’s automotive business. With 25,220 units sold in February, Toyota Kirloskar Motor had its best sales to date, up 61% over the same month the previous year. Its exports were 1,920 units, while its domestic sales were 23,300 units during the month.</p>
